The Fusion of Apollo and Dionysius and the Birth of Tragedy in the Perspective of Henry Nietzsche

Abstract :
For Nietzsche, Greek art, which finds its peak manifestation in the culture of tragedy, is the result of a combination of two elements of Apollonian and Dionysus, one representing order and harmony and the other representing frontier breaking. This is how the birth of tragedy occurred in ancient Greek culture, but in the aftermath of ancient Greece this approach led to the death of tragedy by the two ruptures caused by the violent struggle of Apollo and Dionysus. As a result, the cultural landscape of the Western world was plunged into a crisis of nihilism. Nietzsche seeks to solve this deviation of the idea of the birth of tragedy from the spirit of music. The problem is that with the physiological narrative that Nietzsche presents of the concept of art as something that gives meaning to existence, how does this find theoretical-practical justification for him? It is here that the fusion of the two elements of Dionysius and Apollo in the art of ancient Greek tragedy becomes an appropriate example. The main question is that, from Nietzsche's perspective, beyond the dominant metaphysics, how can man escape from the painful and tragic state of life from the correct relationship between these two elements? The aim of this study is to reflect on Nietzsche's pathology of his era and the causes and factors that make him reflect and praise culture, explore art and tragedy of ancient Greece. The findings will show that the turning point of Nietzsche's view of tragedy is that tragedy is not rooted in a metaphysical concept or idea, but rather a confrontation of material forces that re-align Greek culture with the creative force of Dionysus. The findings of the research are collected from library resources and analyzed by descriptive-analytical method.
